Dr Mills is an experienced health professional and senior academic with expertise in positive education and positive psychology.

Dr Mills is an experienced academic, having worked in senior lecturer and curriculum leader roles in both undergraduate and postgraduate health faculty contexts. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing and the Higher Education Academy (UK), and has completed postgraduate training in Health Promoting Palliative Care, Mental Health Nursing, Medical Anthropology, Positive Education, and Compassion Science.
In 2018, Dr Mills became a certified compassion educator, teaching the Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) program developed at Stanford University Centre for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) for students, health professionals and members of the broader community.
While his research to date has examined both workforce and community capacity in a public health context of palliative and end-of-life care, Jason’s current research interests include the fostering of digital and compassion literacies in nursing students and the broader community to enhance health and wellbeing across the lifespan. As a certified Last Aid instructor, he is actively engaged in community education through the charity Queensland Compassionate Communities.
Dr Mills is Editor-in-Chief for the international journal Progress in Palliative Care, an Associate Editor for BMC Palliative Care, and Editor for Collegian: The Australian Journal of Nursing Practice, Scholarship and Research. He also serves on the editorial boards of Mindfulness, Palliative Care and Social Practice, and the International Journal of Palliative Nursing.
